King’s College Closed 10/29 & 10/30
Update concerning Hurricane Sandy and Campus- Sunday, October 28, 2012
The national weather service forecast continues to indicate that we should expect high winds and heavy rain to the area on October 29, Monday afternoon and October 30,Tuesday. We will begin to see rain and winds today, Sunday.
King’s College has decided to cancel classes and close offices except for essential functions for Monday, October 29, and Tuesday, October 30 in anticipation of the storms from Hurricane Sandy and the declaration of a state of emergency by Governor Corbett. A decision on classes being held on Wednesday, October 31 will be announced on Tuesday afternoon after an assessment of conditions can be made.
The College residence halls and apartments, the Marketplace Dining Service (other dining locations will be closed) and select other services will remain open during this time period. Resident students are encouraged to refer to the email that will be sent by Residence Life shortly. Essential personnel will report for work. There is no mandatory evacuation of the City.
Students and employees are strongly encouraged to sign up for the emergency notification system on the mykings page under resources.
With high winds it is likely that power outages will takes place and length of time for restoration of power is unknown. If there is an electric outage the college internet service and college telephone system will not function.
Students living in off campus housing should take precautions:
1. to insure windows are locked
2. Remove items from in front of windows and from floors that could be easily damaged
3. Obtain basic supplies, for example: flashlights and food that do not require refrigeration or cooking to have on hand.
4. Minimize opening refrigerators to maintain the cold if power goes off.
5. Report any damages to your house or apartment to the landlord.
